Rosemead: post-war houses, garage laundry and back units
City of Rosemead
Rosemead became a city in 1959. Much of it is single-family houses built in the years after World War II, often on lots that run deep from the street. Some of those lots hold a second, smaller home or a converted garage out back.
Older houses tend to send the laundry out to the garage or a small service porch. A washer standing on an uneven garage slab may need its feet leveled before it stops walking across the floor during the spin. And when a dryer takes forever, look first at the flexible vent hose behind it. A squashed hose, or one stuffed with lint, slows drying more often than a failed part does.
If you rent the back unit, check with the owner about who arranges appliance repairs before you book. If you own the lot, tell us which of the two homes needs the visit and where a technician can park.

- Before a dryer visit, pull the machine out a few inches and look at the vent hose.
