Appliance repair in Century City

Century City grew up in the 1960s on land that was once part of a movie studio backlot. Today most people here live in condo towers and managed buildings. When an appliance quits, we come up to your unit and start with a diagnosis.

$20 service call through Oct 31 (then $95)

Say yes to the repair and your service call fee counts toward it in full.

From backlot to skyline

In the early 1960s, 20th Century Fox sold off a large part of its backlot, and Century City was planned on that land: offices, shops and homes along wide boulevards, with the studio still next door. Homes here are mostly condos in high-rise and mid-rise buildings along Avenue of the Stars and the streets nearby, with apartment buildings toward the edges.

Many of the residential buildings went up between the 1960s and the 1980s, and newer towers have joined them since. In the older ones, kitchens have usually been remodeled at least once, while the plumbing and duct routes behind the walls are often original.

How towers handle service visits

Full-service buildings protect their lobbies, elevators and residents, so they set rules for anyone who comes to work in a unit. Expect some mix of these: registering the visit with management ahead of time, checking in at the desk, using the service entrance and elevator, and working within set weekday hours.

Ask the management office what it needs from a service visitor and pass it on when you book. If the building wants the visit on its calendar, tell us the window it allows.

Water and vents that belong to the building

In a tower, some of what feeds your appliances isn't yours. The shut-off for a unit's laundry or dishwasher may sit in a closet you can't open, and in some buildings only the engineer can turn it off. Dryers may vent into a shared duct with its own fan, or be ventless with no duct at all. When a repair touches those parts, we work with the building staff, not around them.

It also helps to know who to call when water shows up where it shouldn't. If a washer or dishwasher is leaking, close the supply valve if it's within your reach, and let the front desk know before you call us.

Compact kitchens, fixed openings

Condo kitchens here often fit a counter-depth or built-in fridge, a slide-in range or a cooktop with a wall oven, and a laundry pair in a closet. The cabinetry sets every size, so replacing a built-in can mean new cabinet work. That's one reason a repair is often the simpler path.

Appliance notes for Century City homes

Dryer repair

Tower dryers often vent into a shared building duct, and some are ventless. If loads take longer than they used to, tell us which kind you have.

Dishwasher repair

Condo dishwashers usually drain through the sink disposal. Run the disposal for a moment and rinse the dishwasher filter before you book.

Refrigerator repair

Counter-depth fridges sit nearly flush with the cabinets, so many rely on the front grille for airflow. Keep it free of dust and of anything stored against it.

Before we come over

  • Find out whether service visits must be registered with management ahead of time.
  • Tell us which garage level or visitor parking to use.
  • Note the hours your building allows for work inside units.

From request to repair.

  1. Tell us what's wrong

Pick the appliance and describe the problem in our short form. We get in touch to set up a time that works for you.

  2. We come to you

A technician visits your home and starts with a diagnosis, so the fix is based on the cause, not a guess.

  3. You get the price first

You learn what failed and what the repair costs before any work. Say yes to the repair and your service call fee counts toward it in full.

  4. Repair, once you say yes

With your go-ahead, we do the repair. When a part needs ordering, that can mean a second visit, and you'll know before we start.

Questions from Century City

Do you work in full-service condo buildings?

Yes. Share the building's check-in steps and parking instructions, and the technician will follow them.

Only our building engineer can shut off the water. Is that a problem?

No. Tell us when you book, and we'll pick a time that works for the engineer too.
