Cooktop repair in Los Angeles

A cooktop that won't cooperate turns a simple dinner into a juggling act. Let's sort it out.

$20 service call through Oct 31 (then $95)

Say yes to the repair and your service call fee counts toward it in full.

Gas, electric and induction cooktops work in completely different ways. A technician comes to your home, checks the type you have and tests the parts that matter for it, then explains the fix and the price before any repair.

Cooktop trouble, burner by burner

Safety first

With a cracked glass top, switch off the breaker and don't cook on it. If you smell gas, leave the home and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside.

Why does my gas cooktop keep clicking?

What's usually behind it

Moisture in the igniter or switch, or a spark switch stuck in the on position.

Try this first

Turn every knob fully off first; if it still clicks, switch off its breaker or unplug it. Then take off the caps and burner heads and let everything dry for a few hours. A hair dryer on low over the burner speeds it up.

Why is the gas flame weak or uneven?

What's usually behind it

Clogged burner ports, or a cap that isn't seated.

Try this first

With the burners off and cool, clear the ports with a straightened paper clip (a toothpick can snap off inside) and set the cap back evenly.

Why does one electric burner stay cold?

What's usually behind it

The coil element, its control switch, or a loose connection.

Try this first

With the cooktop off and cool, swap the coil with a working one of the same size. If the problem moves with the coil, the coil is the culprit.

Why won't my induction cooktop recognize the pan?

What's usually behind it

The pan isn't magnetic or is too small, or a coil or power board has failed.

Try this first

Hold a fridge magnet to the bottom of the pan, and use a pan that covers most of the ring.

When induction says “no pan”

What should I do about a cracked glass cooktop?

What's usually behind it

A cracked glass top usually needs to be replaced.

Try this first

Stop using it, and turn its breaker off until it's been checked.
