Appliance repair in Los Feliz
Los Feliz runs from the flats along Hillhurst and Vermont up into the hills below Griffith Park. The homes are old, handsome and full of snug kitchens. When an appliance gives up, we come to you, work out why and quote the fix first.

From the flats to the foot of Griffith Park
South of Los Feliz Boulevard, the blocks are lined with duplexes, courtyard apartments and modest houses, most of them built in the 1920s and 1930s in Spanish Colonial Revival, Tudor and Mediterranean styles. North of the boulevard, the land climbs toward Griffith Park and the houses grow larger, with curving streets and long driveways.
A few hillside enclaves, Laughlin Park among them, sit behind private gates. Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House stands on a ridge here, and plenty of the homes around it are close to a hundred years old.
Old kitchens, newer machines
These kitchens were laid out long before today's appliances. A standard fridge may barely clear the original cabinets, and a dishwasher often fills a space that once held drawers. The fit can look fine from the front while the machine runs short of air or bends its hoses behind.
Some homes keep a vintage gas range on purpose. O'Keefe & Merritt, a name still found in plenty of local kitchens, was a Los Angeles company. Whether an old range like that is worth repairing depends on the fault and on what parts exist, and you'll hear both before any work starts.
Laundry out back
In many duplexes and courtyard buildings, the washer and dryer aren't in your unit at all. They might share a room off the garage, stand in a closet on a back porch or fill a small outbuilding behind the main house. Say where yours are, and whether a key or a neighbor is needed to get in. A machine out there also lives with more dust and bigger temperature swings than one indoors, and its rubber hoses age faster for it.
Show nights and park traffic
Vermont Avenue is the road up to the Greek Theatre and Griffith Observatory. On concert evenings and sunny weekends, traffic stacks up toward the park and nearby curbs fill early, while Hillhurst and Vermont stay busy most days with their shops and cafes. If there's a show at the Greek on the day you'd like, mention it and we'll pick a time around it.
Appliance notes for Los Feliz homes
Oven & range repair
If a burner clicks but won't light, the burner checks on our oven and range page come first; if the oven never reaches temperature, our gas oven guide shows the safe checks. If you smell gas, get everyone outside and call SoCalGas from there.
Dishwasher repair
A dishwasher fitted into a vintage kitchen usually drains into plumbing that is decades older than the machine. Water left standing after a cycle often starts at the sink trap or disposal rather than the dishwasher itself.
Refrigerator repair
A fridge set into a period cabinet opening has little space above and behind it. If it runs nonstop or its sides feel hot to the touch, airflow is the first suspect.
Before we come over
- Behind a private gate? Send the gate instructions, or tell us who will let the technician in.
- On a winding hillside street, give us the nearest cross street, since map pins can land on the wrong curve.
- If your laundry is in a shared garage or a back building, describe the path from the street.

Do you come to the gated streets in the hills?
Yes, as long as someone can open the gate or share the entry steps with us ahead of time.
