Oven, range and stove repair in Los Angeles

When the oven won't heat, dinner plans fall apart. Let's find out what's really going on.

An oven that runs 40 degrees cool and one that won't heat at all are different problems. A technician comes to your home and tests the heat source, the sensor and the controls one by one, so the right part gets fixed. You get the price before any repair.

When the oven won't cooperate

Safety first

If you smell gas, don't touch the oven, the controls or any light switch. Leave the home and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside.

Why won't my oven heat up?

What's usually behind it

A failed bake or broil element, a weak gas igniter (it glows, yet the gas valve never opens), or a control relay.

Try this first

Make sure delay start or Sabbath mode isn't on. Look at the bake element for blisters or a break. On a gas oven, watch whether a flame follows the igniter's glow within about 90 seconds.

Gas oven won't heat: the weak igniter problem

Why is my oven running too hot or too cool?

What's usually behind it

A drifting temperature sensor, a partly failed element, or the calibration setting.

Try this first

Preheat for 20 minutes and compare with an oven thermometer. Many ovens let you adjust the setting by up to about 35°F.

Why is the oven door still locked after self-clean?

What's usually behind it

The lock stays on until the oven cools down. If the lock motor or switch has failed, it stays locked.

Try this first

Let the oven cool completely, then turn its breaker off for a minute to reset the control.

Why won't a burner on my range light?

What's usually behind it

The igniter is wet or dirty, the burner cap is sitting crooked, or the spark module is failing.

Try this first

With the knob off and the burner cool, let it dry out fully, brush the igniter tip with a dry toothbrush, and set the cap back on squarely.

Why is the oven display blank or showing an error code?

What's usually behind it

A tripped breaker, a control board fault, or a wiring problem.

Try this first

Check the breaker, and write down the exact code. It helps narrow down the cause.
