Dryer repair in Los Angeles

Pulling out damp towels after a full cycle, and then another, gets old quickly. Often the dryer itself is fine and the air just can't get out.

Say yes to the repair and your service call fee counts toward it in full.

A new heating part in a choked vent can fail again, so the airflow gets checked before anything else. The technician does that at your home, and you get the cause and the price before any repair. The choice is yours.

Why your dryer is struggling

Safety first

If you smell gas, don't touch any switches. Leave the home and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside. If it keeps shutting off from heat, stop restarting it.

Why is my dryer tumbling but not heating?

What's usually behind it

On an electric dryer: the heating element, the thermal fuse, or power reaching the dryer on only one side of its 240-volt circuit (a half-failed breaker or a blown fuse). On a gas dryer: the igniter, the gas valve coils or the flame sensor.

Try this first

Electric: switch both halves of the dryer's breaker off, then on together; if it trips again, leave it off and book a visit. Gas: if the shut-off valve is closed and you don't know why, leave it closed and call SoCalGas. If you smell gas, leave the home and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside.

Why does it take forever to dry a load?

What's usually behind it

Usually a restricted vent, a blower packed with lint, or a cycling thermostat.

Try this first

Clean the lint screen. Then, if you can reach the outside vent hood from the ground (don't climb onto a roof or ladder for this), feel the air there while the dryer runs. It should come out strong and warm.

When one dryer cycle isn't enough

Why won't my dryer start at all?

What's usually behind it

The door switch, the thermal fuse, the start switch, or a broken drive belt.

Try this first

Give the drum a turn with your hand. Free spinning with zero drag usually means a snapped belt. Also check the breaker and the door latch.

Why is the dryer squealing or thumping?

What's usually behind it

A worn idler pulley, drum rollers or drum glides.

Try this first

Take out any coins or zippered items and listen with the drum empty. A squeal that stays means worn parts, and it only gets louder.

Why does my dryer stop partway through?

What's usually behind it

It's overheating, usually from poor airflow, or the motor is overheating inside.

Try this first

Clear the vent path first. If it still stops, don't keep restarting it; let it cool down and book a visit.
