Washing machine repair in Los Angeles
A washer that stops halfway leaves you with wet clothes, a full drum and a growing pile in the hamper. Let's get to the bottom of it.
$20 service call through Oct 31 (then $95)
Say yes to the repair and your service call fee counts toward it in full.
Front-loaders and top-loaders fail in different ways, so the visit starts by checking which one you have. Then the technician tests the drain, the drive and the door lock at your home, explains what turned up and gives you the price before any repair.
When the washer misbehaves
Safety first
Unplug the washer before you open any panel. If water is reaching the floor, turn off both supply taps first.
Why does water stay in the drum when the cycle ends?
What's usually behind it
The pump filter or drain hose is clogged, the pump has failed, or a door or lid switch never tells the washer it can move on.
Try this first
Unplug the washer, and if the last cycle was hot, let the water cool. On a front-loader, drain the drum through the small hose next to the filter (if there is one) into a shallow tray, one trayful at a time; a full drum holds several gallons. Then unscrew the filter slowly over towels, clean it, and make sure the drain hose isn't bent flat.
Why won't it spin, or why is the spin so loud?
What's usually behind it
An off-balance load, a worn belt or motor coupling, tired shock absorbers, or, on front-loaders, worn drum bearings.
Try this first
Spread the load out evenly and run a spin-only cycle. If you hear a roar that climbs with the speed, that's usually the bearings, so stop and book a visit.
Why is my washer slow to fill, or not filling?
What's usually behind it
Grit in the inlet screens, a worn fill valve, or a faulty water-level sensor.
Try this first
Unplug the washer and shut both taps. If the hoses unscrew by hand, rinse the small screens inside the inlets. If they need pliers, leave them for the technician.
Why won't the washer door unlock?
What's usually behind it
There's still water inside, the lock is stuck, or the control is waiting on a sensor.
Try this first
If water is still in the drum, drain it first (see “Why does water stay in the drum when the cycle ends?” above) and let hot water cool. Never open the door with water above its rim. Once the drum is empty, run a spin-only cycle, then cut the power for about a minute. Don't pull hard on the handle; the latch breaks easily.
Why is my washer leaving a puddle?
What's usually behind it
A torn door boot, loose hoses, too much soap foaming over, or a worn pump seal.
Try this first
Turn off the water supply first. Check the folds of the rubber door seal for tears, and make sure both hoses are snug.
